I started Kara's in Kenya when I (Kara) moved to Kenya in 2011. The blog documents some of the travel adventures I've had, so that in 50 years (if the internet hasn't been replaced by something more modern like telepathic robots), I can reflect back on these experiences.
FAQs (most of which I've never actually been asked):
Q: Why should I read your blog?
A: Reasons for tuning in will likely vary depending on who you are. If you're my parents, you probably read it because you love me. If you're a friend, you probably read it because I don't update Facebook regularly enough. If you're thinking about moving to Nairobi, you may be hopeful that I'll impart relevant wisdom. And if you're none of the above, then you're probably bored at work and/or want to armchair travel for a bit.
Q: How do I navigate your blog?
A: All postings are on the home page in chronological order. But if you'd like to specifically filter by location, you can choose from one of two labels on the right-hand-side: "Kara's in Kenya" or "Kara's Overlanding Africa." The first will pull up all Kenya posts; the second will take you to my 6-week camping trip from Cape Town to Nairobi.
Q: Wait, why are you in Kenya?
A: I work in Public Health research and moved here for a job opportunity coordinating a project at a local HIV clinic.
Q: And what's this Overland trip thing you keep mentioning?
A: I did a 6-week Overland trip from Cape Town back up to Nairobi, that passed through Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and Tanzania along the way. This basically means that we spent long days on a truck, driving through Africa, camping by night, and seeing the world. I'm retrospectively blogging the trip by memory and hand-written journal entries I kept along the way.
Q: I'm thinking of moving to Nairobi. Should I?
A: Probably. I love living here, as do most other people I know. But then again, if we didn't like it, we'd leave, so it's a skewed sample.
Q: How can I contact you?
A: contactkarahere@gmail.com
